For his role as Chief Justice and Chief Legislator for congress, re-writing the individual mandate provision of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) to make it “fit” the Constitution, We The People have hereby accepted and inducted into the society that supplants serfdom for citizenship, Justice John Roberts.

CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS concluded in Part III–B that the individual mandate must be construed as imposing a tax on those who do not have health insurance, if such a construction is reasonable.
The most straightforward reading of the individual mandate is that it commands individuals to purchase insurance.  But, for the reasons explained, the Commerce Clause does not give Congress that power. It is therefore necessary to turn to the Government’s alternative argument: that the mandate may be upheld as within Congress’s power to “lay and collect Taxes.”

Read the ruling here.

The award reads as follows:

Justice John Roberts
Know ye that many of the citizens of the United States of America have determined your actions to be in contrast to the cause of their country, and have thereby recommended you for the
Benedict Arnold Award
After careful review by committee, and public voting, you are hereby accepted and inducted into the society that supplants serfdom for citizenship.

The latest recipient of the Benedict Arnold Awards goes to
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

The award reads as follows:

Nikki Haley
Know ye that members of the TEA Party have determined your endorsement of Mitt Romney, the antithesis of the TEA Party, to be in contrast to the cause of their country, and have thereby recommended you for the
Benedict Arnold Award.

After careful review by committee, and public voting, you are hereby accepted
and inducted into the society that supplants serfdom for citizenship.
December 16, 2011

Governor Haley was nominated and awarded the Benedict Arnold Award for selling out the TEA Party, that she used to get elected, by endorsing Mitt Romney for President of the USA in the 2012 election cycle.

We would encourage all of those who wish to personally congratulate this governor to download the prepared certificate, print it, and mail it into her South Carolina office (address below).  Although it will take a month for the mail to be screened, and most likely she will not reply–it will be fun to send it in anyway. Just imagine the staffer’s face as they open the envelope!

If you’re impatient, or just want to save money on postage, you’re welcome to call as a “citizen journalist” and request a comment for your blog.  This generally goes something like:  “Hi, I’m so and so, and am a contributing author for WashingtonIsBroke.com (or your website).  I am writing an article on Governor Haley and was wondering if she has any comment about being selected to receive the Benedict Arnold Award?”

Nikki Haley Benedict Arnold AwardIt’s recommend that everyone who participated in the voting (and everyone who didn’t), please choose at least one method to communicate to the Governor that she has been selected to receive this exclusive award.  Please exercise the utmost respect for her office when communicating with her and her staff.  Any personal feelings should be expressed politely.  Remember the citizen representation we have in this nation is sacred.  The process is being defended with Soldier’s blood.

In the meantime feel free to have a bit of fun.  Send in your Nikki Haley Benedict Arnold Award or call today.  Let us know what happens using the comment section below.

Media inquires are exceptions to Congressional rules regarding communication with those outside the district.  Yup, no irony there.  Move along now.

Bart Stupak

on April 2, 2010 in Winners

Rep. Bart Stupak (MI 1st U.S. Congressional Dist)

This congressman was selected as the first winner for the Benedict Arnold Award.  For days he held up the healthcare legislation by his stance regarding the federal funding for abortion, then succumbed to the pressure and voted for the legislation.  The “bribe” he got in exchange for his conscience was an executive order signed by the President.  In this video he discusses his decision and that executive order with Fox’s Megyn Kelly.
